The hourly solar data for the Kelburn station was obtained from the CliFlo database (NIWA 2019a) for the 2018 year.
How does the solar energy calculator work in New Zealand?
This calculator estimates the solar energy that can be collected by a solar capture device (solar panel) at a given address, panel direction and roof slope within New Zealand. The program combines an image of the local landscape with irradiance data from the nearest climate station. This is typically more than 10 years of "sunlight hours" data.
Does Auckland have a solar potential?
A more in-depth analysis of the solar resource, and the potential for solar PV, was undertaken for the Auckland metropolitan area. The Energy Centre of the University of Auckland established a web-based tool to evaluate the rooftop solar potential in Auckland (Suomalainen et al. 2017a, 2017b).
